Installing The Scanner

This scanner is Plug & Play, meaning that you simply plug into an available USB port on your device. No software driver installation is required.

Preparing the Scanner For First Use

PDF Prioritization:

Many state driver’s licenses have both a 2D barcode and a 1D barcode. After resetting the SYM to factory defaults you must scan this barcode to force the scanner to read the 2D and not the 1D barcode.

Scanning A Driver’s License

SafeVisitor utilizes the 2D barcode that is found on the back of all US issued Driver’s Licenses. This is a thick bar that is located on the back of the DL as shown below.

This barcode contains all of the person's information that is found on the front of the license. This is a much more secure way of getting the license’s information as it is very easy to forge the front of a license.

Testing Your Scanner:

Below are two sample barcodes you can use to ensure your scanner is correctly reading barcodes used in SafeVisitor. You will need to first open any editor installed on your PC. Examples are Microsoft Word, Notepad, gEdit, or TextEdit. Once you have opened any of these program and placed the cursor inside of a blank document, simply scan the barcode below.
