Webcam Information

Installing the webcam

SafeVisitor uses the Logitech c270 HD Webcam for taking pictures of people who are stored within the system. This webcam is Plug & Play, meaning that you simply plug into an available USB port on your device. No software driver installation is required.

Preparing the webcam for first use

For security reasons, when you use your webcam the first time with SafeVisitor you will need to allow the webcam to be shared within your web browser. If you are printing badges, you will be using the Firefox Web Browser. This browser is required for printing due to the need for the badge to utilize the Adobe Reader plugin.

You will want to do a test run and check in your first visitor. When you scan the drivers license, you will get a screen with the DL info and you will see a popup in the upper left-hand corner asking to allow the webcam.

Select the option "Always Share".

Select the option "Always Share".

This will be a one-time configuration change. This will need to be done for each user account on a computer.

Using the webcam

Whenever a drivers license of a Temporary Visitor is scanned, a screen will appear with the person's information along with a live window with webcam active and ready to take a picture of the person.

You simply click the "Take Picture" button to capture the image. This window will be active even for a returning visitor to allow you to always have an updated picture if you like.
